Several hundred Galway residents attended a rally on Saturday in Eyre Square to highlight racism. Galway Communities Against Racism and Discrimination organised the event which was supported by many groups including Amach!LGBT+, members of the migrant community, including those living in Direct Provision, and the Green Party.

University of Galway has appointed its second ever full-time Traveller Education Officer to lead on the recruitment of and support students from the Irish Traveller community.

Misleor, which starts on Thursday September 29, is a truly special event, and the only festival in Ireland that celebrates and connects nomadic cultures from around the world. The three-day festival includes a vibrant programme of music, theatre, film, poetry, and visual art from Traveller, Roma, Sa?mi, Mongolian and Romany Gypsy communities.

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins led the opening of the week-long celebrations to mark Irish Traveller Ethnicity with a keynote address, exploring rights and other issues for the Traveller community.
